Darren S 03/23/2024 We loved this one over at The Undead Symphony. We pride ourselves with giving overseas zombie movies a fair viewing but a Cuban movie that clearly stole it's title from Shaun of the Dead? We went in a little skeptical but this was fun from the off. As Juan and his neighbours in the run down parts of Havana struggle through life ripping people off and getting by day to day the zombie outbreak brings them all together. They talk constantly of the accursed Yankees funding dissidents to fight against the communist regime as Juan, his best buddy Lazaro, Lazaro's son California, Juan's daughter Camille, local transsexual prostitute China and her bodyguard El Primo carve out a life in the new zombie Havana. They big plan? We will kill your zombies for you. It is very funny, the writing and acting superb and it is very watchable. Don't be put off by the title being a rip-off of Shaun, or it being from Cuba. The Undead Symhpony scored it 6.5/10 and thoroughly deserved See more Dayne R 10/03/2023 Not only was this realistic on how we'd all be in a zombie apocalypse but, the comedy was fit in just at the right moments! I love that this has a setting outisde of the US since we've seen so many US films about zombies and the performances were just perfect. I'm glad that there's no sequel or any spin off. It just makes it a bit more special that it's on its own. This really had me laughing like crazy which Shaun of The Dead and Zombieland were the only zombie parody films to do so. I recommend it to any zombie fan who's looking for a good laugh and a bit more realism to how characters are put into a situation of the zombie apocalypse. This for me was a 10/10. See more isla s 09/02/2022 This is quite an amusing film. It's very much a Spanish Sean of the Dead, which should surprise no-one. The comedy is quite visual and slapstick at times. It's pretty fast-paced and features some nice cinematography, with large crowds of people, or beings, to keep the viewer watching at times. Some of the dialogue is amusing too. It's a pretty mad cap, entertaining watch which I'd recommend, yes. Oh and I enjoyed the choreographed scenes, of which there are a few. See more 05/30/2021 Cinematic value is limited... but the powerful satire, delivered in exceptionally direct, harsh and funny way, with plenty of surprises, and with the handicap of being actually produced and shot in Cuba, while at the same time heavily criticizing Castro's heritage, makes it exceptional. A complete must-see See more prawnda s 04/14/2021 this movie had some funny moments, good characters, was good in concept, but was very disorganized, very much focused on constantly having a slapstick moment at the expense of continuity or the suspense of my disbelief. it felt like the movie couldn't figure out what the climax or the message was. there were three or four too many wacky cameo "lets gear up and go on a spree" moments that should have probably been compiled into one scene, and by the end it became clear that the movie was a whole lot of sloppy storyboarding stuck together without much care for the quality or flow of the narrative. also, there was some pretty questionable stuff regarding the characters killing innocent uninfected humans and laughing about it, which wasn't really funny so much as it made me question the writer's personal fantasies. usually we wouldn't see the protagonists doing things like that. the summary and many reviews will tell you that this is some kind of sociopolitical commentary, but it starts and ends at the allegory of "all the people in cuba are mindless zombies". it's not *bad*. i just think that it needs a complete overhaul by new editors tbqh because there is a lot of good content here that is just ruined by the end product being such a mess.
