Of all the versions of The Jungle Book, Mowgli sure is the runt of the pack.
March 19, 2019
The film is too gory for young viewers and likely to leave children frightened and upset and it isn't a very pleasant viewing experience for adults either.

Mowgli has little more to offer besides technical prowess. [Full Review in Spanish]

The characters don't do anything interesting and Mowgli is a jungle boy who stays the same through the movie. I immediately forgot about the movie as soon as I finished watching it, which is a real shame
January 19, 2019
A frustratingly grim take on the material that feels unfinished and under-realized.
January 8, 2019
Stripped of comedy and song, the film sits in a dour netherworld - too dark and scary for young viewers, too simplistic for adults.
January 7, 2019
It made me vow to never take any kids to visit a jungle not created by Disney.
January 3, 2019
This is a fairly tame and accessible version of the popular adventure tale, just nowhere near as good as it should have been.
December 21, 2018
The film feels painfully incomplete, from its frequently told story to its weak visuals.
December 14, 2018
Sure it looks good, but it feels off its game most of the time.
December 13, 2018
In the end, Serkis and company failed to see the jungle for the trees.
December 12, 2018
Instead of being a studio's box office disaster, the film's found a life on the streamer. Just don't show it to your kids.
December 12, 2018
Intent is far more interesting than execution, finding Serkis slowly losing control of his vision as the effort drags on, ending up with more of a curiosity than a triumphant reimagining.
December 11, 2018
It is too dark for younger audiences and lacks the levity and character depth for older audiences.
December 10, 2018
Definitely think it over before traumatizing your kids with it (unless that's what you want to do, which: fair), but unless you're a giant Jungle Book aficionado and crave completism, you can skip it.
December 10, 2018
A frustrating failure built on an ambitious filmmaker with both a lack of support from a studio who clearly wanted to wash their hands of his work, and a misguided tonal sensibility that clashes with his material.
December 10, 2018
Some may find pleasure in Serkis' meditation on the world of the jungle. Yet, there are no many new paths taken by the story.
December 9, 2018
All dropped into a thoroughly ordinary-looking jungle environment with the palette of a dreary network drama and all the stylistic flourish of a sedan commercial; like bare fluorescent bulbs humming at full brightness in an otherwise bare beige room.
December 8, 2018
The film is not without spectacle, but it is strangely without soul.
December 8, 2018
You have to wade through a whole bunch of effects that feel ... abandoned before they were fully baked.
