Just Wright

Just Wright (2010)

Critic Consensus: Well-intentioned but formulaic, Just Wright has winning leads but can't overcome its preponderance of cliches.

Critic Reviews for Just Wright

All Critics (107) | Top Critics (28)

Although it's replete with solid supporting players and even stronger goodwill, Just Wright buckles under the burden of its pure intentions. Too many auxiliary, moralizing plot points and characters are picked up, only to be suddenly dropped.

I like this movie a lot.

Technically speaking, this is a romantic sports comedy. We don't get many films in which these elements work well as a team.

Intersperses the suds with zippy basketball sequences that feature NBA pros, and a hip-hop soundtrack that steers the film to a mild, steady beat.

You can almost see the studio accountants counting the demographic hot spots Just Wright should connect with as the movie reels by.

Just Wright is an easy enough way to pass an afternoon, and it is refreshing to see a plus-sized woman on screen that isn't, for one second, fretting about her weight.

Queen Latifah is fine as always but Common is a dull blank and the story trite.

Enjoyable, but one of those abrupt endings that I hate.

Pretty standard romance movie. The acting isn't great, but i've seen worse. I usually don't like queen latifah, but she was decent here.

Cast: Queen Latifah, Common, Paula Patton, James Pickens Jr., Phylicia Rashad, Pam Grier, Laz Alonso, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Landes, Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade Director: Sanaa Hamri Summary: Good-hearted physical therapist Leslie Wright (Queen Latifah) is looking for romance but keeps finding duds until she meets professional basketball player Scott McKnight (Common). When Scott suffers a major injury, it's up to Leslie to save his career. Leslie and Scott become close as they work together, but Leslie's beautiful, gold-digging childhood chum -- who is also Scott's estranged girlfriend -- threatens their relationship. My Thoughts: "I couldn't help but like this. I love the Queen. The film has many cliche's and is as predictable as the next romantic comedy film. But who cares. As long as the acting is good and the story is decent then it's an enjoyable watch for me. Of course there will be those who will dislike it, but if your a fan of these types of flicks it will probably be to your liking."
