tries to do too many things
October 1, 2012
All of this predictability and retreading of the same old formula just makes for one long, stretched-out film that leaves the audience waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Although it's replete with solid supporting players and even stronger goodwill, Just Wright buckles under the burden of its pure intentions. Too many auxiliary, moralizing plot points and characters are picked up, only to be suddenly dropped.

Just Wright's heart is in the right place. It just doesn't know what to do with it.
September 22, 2010
Just about bearable.
September 20, 2010
A bland Cinderella story that never steps out of its comfort zone.

Utterly predictable, unbearably trite.

May 20, 2010
I just wish there had been more chemistry between the leads, because if there had been maybe I could have more easily overlooked all my major problems with the production.
May 19, 2010
Hollywood stereotype keeps Latifah stuck in neo-Mammy mode. And Latifah isn't a good enough actress to reveal emotional aspiration; neither she nor Patton bring depth to the phenomenon of women who orbit around successful athletes.
May 16, 2010
Queen Latifah's talents are wasted in this bland Cinderella story set against a professional sports backdrop.
May 16, 2010
Director Sanaa Hamri doesn't care about the NBA superstar thing. Common's character is just there to smile while we're constantly told Leslie (Latifah) isn't good enough for him.
May 15, 2010
A love story needs two sides to work -- and a love triangle, three -- and Common is simply unable to generate any chemistry with his co-stars.
May 14, 2010
Positive messages galore in formulaic, teen-friendly romcom.
May 14, 2010
Just Wright tries to soften everybody's rough edges by the end, to an extent that defies dramatic logic.
May 14, 2010
This ugly-duckling romance is as stale as last week's bagel.
