Movie Info

Thinking it will be easy to make his fortune Down Under, Englishman Richard Connor (Peter Lawford) travels to Australia only to find he's been grossly misinformed. Broke and demoralized, he teams up with petty criminal John Gamble (Richard Boone) just to scrape together enough money to go back home. Their plan is to con a local rancher (Finlay Currie) into thinking Connor is his estranged son, but things go awry when Connor falls in love with the rancher's daughter (Maureen O'Hara).

20th Century Fox went all in for this slight adventure Down Under wherein 2 hustlin' con men set their sights on a down-and-out drunken rancher - and his rockin' beauty daughter. Whereas the story might be thin and predictable, the setting is not: a country ravaged by drought. Director Lewis Milestone takes care to give attention to all that makes Australia unique and it raises this piece past merely acceptable.

Some nice shots of the Australian Outback but not much of a story.
