…pick almost any horror movie and you can trace it back to Mario Bava and specifically this baroque, imaginative movie…the build up is creepy and has plenty of spooky narrative beats, and the pay off is satisfying…

Unintentionally funny dialog throughout this excruciatingly slow movie makes for a very bad hour and a half of "entertainment". If it was at least slightly scary at some point it would have helped (ok always say something positive: the lighting on the spiral staircase was kinda cool.) Unwatchable and wildly overrated.
