James Franco is excellent as the stereotypical sleazy dirtbag. As an actor, he is a chameleon who always delivers on screen.

Well-intentioned. [Full review in Spanish]

Clearly the work of talented filmmakers with unique sensibilities, but it ultimately paints itself into a dramatic corner from which it never quite figures a way out.

Myles Truitt and Jack Reynor act as real brothers would, and it brings a lot of charm to this otherwise fair movie.

While the elements don't necessarily blend as they should, the individual pieces of "Kin" are actually pretty good.

Kin is an interesting story and genre bender of a film. I think that viewers will have to go in with the understanding that the movie isn't going to be a typical sci-fi or drama.

The movie nicely captures an America at the fringes. It is rare - and rarer still in science fiction - to find a film that does that without a sense of pity or parody.

The high concept and visual effects add a bit of science fiction to Kin, but don't let that fool you. This is a film about family and loyalty, and it tells that tale well.

What it lacks in dramatic impact it makes up being original. That's a real plus in these days of sequels, prequels, remakes and reboots.

Kin proves to not be one thing or the other, defying any clear genre or demographic boundaries. It's not a blockbuster or a heroic young adult tale, just a devastatingly sad and terrible story...

Thriller about brothers has realistic violence, language.

Kin isn't a great movie. The narrative gets a bit too wonky at the end. But it's a refreshing change of pace from super-budgeted sci-fi.

The picture is trying to do something a little different -- a rare thing, as you've probably noticed.

Kin's core themes and Elijah's strength as the embodiment of them creates real emotional attachment that even the goofiest character choices cannot undermine.

Intriguing and entertaining, a rare original sci-fi flick that leaves audiences wanting to know more.

Billed as science-fiction, it's more about brother-bonding. Once the sci-fi gets there, it is sometimes in the way of a much better movie.

Feels very "streaming TV", but well acted and modestly entertaining with a few dynamic moments.

...the Bakers' ambition ultimately pays off in a genre film with more emotional investment than this time of year normally affords.
