Legend of the Sword is still a watchable - albeit ultimately forgettable - adventure that will keep you (somewhat) engaged as you while away a lazy summer evening.

An enjoyable take on the legend though Hunnam is at times ill at ease. Law is a terrific Vortigern, wandering his stage or slouching across his throne like Richard III. Ritchie's flourishes don't always work; some of the jokes are endearingly awful.

For everything that is bold and inventive about King Arthur there's something equally generic for a blockbuster origin story.

While this re-envisioning of Camelot should be applauded for trying something new, its desire to crib off so many other iconic aesthetics [makes it more] generic than unique.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is a failure - but a wholly enjoyable one, that in its best moments manages to capture the boundless fun that made audiences fall in love with Guy Ritchie's films in the first place.

If you're really generous about poetic license, it's an entertaining (if frustrating) adventure.

Despite the inconsistency in pace and vision behind this unique take on the legend of Arthur, Ritchie pulls it off in style.

While King Arthur is not Guy Ritchie gold, it is an entertaining film that serves up the right amount of thrills, spills and wit.

Once we all take a deep breath and realise that the Arthurian clock has effectively been reset to year zero, there is fun to be had here.
