Elvis, young and relatively untamed, in a superior star vehicle from 1958.

This is arguably Elvis Presley's best film, and certainly his best acting performance.

King Creole features Elvis Presley's best film performance, a result perhaps of the helming of Michael Curtiz.

Presley shows himself to be a surprisingly sympathetic and believable actor on occasion. He also does some very pleasant, soft and melodious, singing.

Elvis rises to the occasion of his fourth feature. He's a natural, more attitude and impulse than complexity and nuance, as he burns through the role...

Curtiz's intelligent, austere, film noir-ish direction provides the perfect antidote to the occasional excesses of a script based on a Harold Robbins novel, and an ideal complement to Presley's performance.

It's Presley's Danny Fisher in King Creole who is a full-fledged, contradictory human being.

Presley oferece uma atuação convincente, Matthau está ótimo como vilão e o filme consegue inserir os números musicais sem interromper a narrativa.

Familiar stuff, but direction from Casablanca's Curtiz makes it a cut above the rest dramatically, with a storyline more convincing than in a lot of rock 'n' roll films.

The film does an amazingly good job of doing of leading many to believe that Presley could have been an inspired actor had he not been steered down the river by Hal Wallis and Colonel Tom Parker.
