It's metaphorical, vague but also precise in its specificity for the horrific trials these people are to face - their personal hell.

Nyholm shrewdly avoids providing concrete answers about the nature of this time-loop scenario, instead plunging deeper and deeper into recurring panoramas of suffering and hopelessness...

[An] entire exercise in arty scab-picking.

Though at times tasteless and barely coherent, the story is oddly affecting, the very strangeness of Nyholm's folkloric vision and its unnerving execution pulling you in.

Nothing hinders surrealism more than the sense that its creators are actively working for it, though Koko-di Koko-da is nonetheless difficult to dismiss.

Apr 08, 2021An old-school Swedish grief-parable and pretty baleful. I'm not sure I'd recommend it; it's not as clever or emotionally moving as it thinks it is but it is grim. Couple grieving for their dead child are subjected to a cycle of weird torments by a group of surrealist fairy-tale psychopaths in a wood. It's not as horrible as 'Funny Games' or 'Antichrist' by far but it shares a similar dreary, circular ambience. Cool shadow-puppet sequence in the middle. Cw for several dead dogs.Charles M Super Reviewer

Jan 01, 2021This is what David Lynch's nightmares must be like -- a groundhog day of despair and depravity. There is one scene -- only one freaking scene -- that is absolutely gripping and terrifying to anybody that has had a child. And the rest is just art-for-for art's sake with little effort to connect the dots.Mark B Super Reviewer
