Movie Info

Ken Yoshida adapts a wildly popular Japanese television drama series for this film about loss, loneliness, and forbidden love. Kazuki (Toshiaki Karasawa) is a former rugby star who quit the game after accidentally sending his best friend into a coma on the field. He exchanges the rugby field for the classroom, teaching in an exclusive all-girls high school. One day, he spies a student, Mayu (Kyoko Toyama), at the school pocketing a toothbrush in a department store. He sneaks up behind her, swipes another brush and whispers to her that they should flee. Once out of the shop, he asks her name and tosses her his ill-gotten merchandise. She is instantly in love. Mayu's past is equally marred by guilt and loneliness -- her mother died giving birth to her and her father still has not gotten over it. He lives in London and sends her money, but no emotional support. Later, Mayu follows Kazuki home. He invites her in, and then tries to rape her. She resists and, feeling like a complete cad, stops. Yet from that moment on, they are a de facto -- if secret -- couple. Unfortunately, the Mayu's dorm mother (Keiko Oginome) gets wind of this illicit affair and sets about making life very difficult for the young lass. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
