D P Nov 3 I think the issue is that it is translated from another culture. I wouldn't call it bad, though. I would show it to a kindergarten class at the end of the school year as a time-filler. See more Vocomchris K. @Vocomchris Sep 9 4 stars for exceptional animation. The early scenes with the ships in a storm are excellent and worthy of seeing in a theater on a large screen. However, the story as good as it is, is too lengthy. I feel some time could have been shaved off to make this a really great film. The little one’s gave up an hour in. The animation quality and action kept me engaged. Typically I would have been checked out before the kiddies. Highly recommend for spectacular animation. With breathtaking visuals, an overwhelmingly compelling plot, and character development that can only be described as exquisite, Kung Food is indubitably the best movie of the century, nay, of all time. The subtle character foil between Super Bao and Salmon highlights the ambiguity of good and evil: while Super Bao desperately clings to the childish notion that an absolute good and evil exist, Salmon clearly grapples with the harsher reality that he is using objectively evil methods to preserve his honor. Equally impressive is the development of Lord Octopus, who, clearly ostracized due to his being "salty," seeks to enact revenge on the other food populations. Lord Octopus and his flawed motives for justice draw a clear parallel with our world as we are reminded that, all too often, we draw artificial boundaries around those closest to us in order to maintain the "purity" of our own community. The movie ends with a plot twist so heart-wrenchingly painful it's almost beautiful. The ultimate sacrifice of Salmon to save Bao and defeat Lord Octopus shows that Salmon's character arc is complete, having come full circle from the once-misguided samurai hyper-fixated on his honor. Salmon and Bao's character foil is heightened as Salmon hybridizes his own and Bao's thinking, coming to the brutal realization that sacrifice is the only way to preserve the objective good. As Bao hopelessly digs through the salt, desperately clinging on to any sign of Salmon, the samurai's name becomes forever immortalized in Kung Food history: for only a god would be willing to sacrifice so much to save a mere dumpling.
