You'll come away from it having learned something but probably not having been moved by it.

Despite the exuberance of the works featured, which are promptly flattened by the film's commitment to a traditional documentary blueprint, Yayoi Kusama's resilience still commands our attention.

Sporadically interesting but mostly tedious...

The installation artist, sculptor and world-famous painter of dots, Yayoi Kusama, is poorly served by this achingly pedestrian biographical film.

It's an impressive compilation of information, but it covers so much in a short amount of time that it ultimately feels a little superficial.

The film serves as an excellent cautionary tale for those who seek to curate culture, recognizing that no era should be solely represented by a bunch of white men.

There is great beauty in her work and Lenz's camera does it great justice.

Lenz piques your interest with the story of this unusual, fierce talent, but the payoff is in the color and spectacle of the art.

Kusama: Infinity is an endlessly fascinating documentary about an inspiring life, but it is also a universal story.
September 4, 2018
Although it may be in broad strokes, it does paint Kusama authentically, and gets across what she means for the art world, and what she means to her fans. Kusama is portrayed as a tragic figure, but simultaneously a very strong and hopeful one.

Yayoi Kusama waited most of her life for the recognition, fame, and fortune that she sought when she first came to New York in 1958. Today, at age 89, she is the top-selling female artist in the world.

Infinity is an essential watch in order to understand why Yayoi Kusama's art matters, and how the person behind the dots is inspirational beyond the finite reach of our own individual universes.

Lenz shows you Kusama's shows, and the mimicking exhibitions of her male contemporaries. It's a perfect film for the #metoo era: A glimpse into the life of a visionary born when even "progressive culture" ignored women's voices.

Captures the struggle not only of one woman to make art, but also the issues that have beset almost all women working in the arts.

"Kusama: Infinity" makes me believe that as Dostoevsky once wrote, "Beauty will save the world."
October 4, 2018
Using interviews, archive photographs and footage, and the artist's own testimony, Lenz gives a detailed account of Kusama's time in New York.

As it should be with a film like this, the most fascinating aspect is the examination of Kusama's process, its evolution, and the psychology that drives it.
June 8, 2018
Even after this comprehensive account of her life and career, she remains an enigma that can never be fully explored - which is itself a rather Kusama-ish idea.

There's something oddly comforting about such a person serving as the subject for a documentary this respectful, and traditional.
