You'll come away from it having learned something but probably not having been moved by it.

Despite the exuberance of the works featured, which are promptly flattened by the film's commitment to a traditional documentary blueprint, Yayoi Kusama's resilience still commands our attention.

Lenz piques your interest with the story of this unusual, fierce talent, but the payoff is in the color and spectacle of the art.

Kusama: Infinity is an endlessly fascinating documentary about an inspiring life, but it is also a universal story.

Although it may be in broad strokes, it does paint Kusama authentically, and gets across what she means for the art world, and what she means to her fans. Kusama is portrayed as a tragic figure, but simultaneously a very strong and hopeful one.

Lenz shows you Kusama's shows, and the mimicking exhibitions of her male contemporaries. It's a perfect film for the #metoo era: A glimpse into the life of a visionary born when even "progressive culture" ignored women's voices.

Even after this comprehensive account of her life and career, she remains an enigma that can never be fully explored - which is itself a rather Kusama-ish idea.

There's something oddly comforting about such a person serving as the subject for a documentary this respectful, and traditional.

A visually exuberant documentary that tenderly traces the enthralling career of the maverick, mentally ill Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

The forces behind Kusama: Infinity probably realized they didn't have to strain too hard to make the case for this singular, brilliant artist. She'd already made it for herself.

Heather Lenz's new doc seeks to right those wrongs, and in the process, celebrate and provide context to the life of this incredibly complex person.

With her magenta wig and absent, dissociated manner, [Kusama] is a slightly humourless but compelling subject.
