"The Creation of Meaning" moves between suspending us in timeless nature and listening to the echoes of the past.
Casanova's film shows just how much natural splendor dominates the region, here caught at the height of estival glory.
Throughout the film, the beauty of the landscapes and the totally natural insertion of human, animal and insect movement within the frame lend "The Creation of Meaning" a particular grace.
Under the rustic relics of the past and the calamities of the present, [writer/director Simone] Rapisarda Casanova uncovers a few traces of the infinite, as well as some fresh iterations of a decidedly cosmic sort of joke.
The echoes of the past are wider than one conflict, even that of the Second World War. This resonance, constructed from breathtaking images and a wonderful softness of direction, brings Casanova's film into contact with the eternal.
The film views the meaning-making process as something malleable and dependent on perspective.
