Lady and the Tramp Reviews

March 25, 2020
This latest remake is about as mediocre - no better, no worse - as all the others that preceded it.

Seeing two photo-realistic canines lock lips? Well... it ain't romantic, to say the least.

The performances make this worth a watch, and I recommend that any and all fans of this story and the original animated film give it a chance, but I can't say I'll ever choose to watch this over the original here on out.

"Lady and the Tramp" is fairly harmless and little ones unfamiliar with the original narrative will likely be enthralled by shiny scenery and mildly engaging songs, but you're better off just queuing up the animated classic instead.
November 14, 2019
The worst of this new Lady and the Tramp comes when the script piles on the strenuous comic action, followed by ill-advised dark shadows.
November 14, 2019
The canine leads are convincing, but not particularly compelling.
November 13, 2019
Plays more like a "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" sequel, presenting a lifeless adventure that doesn't take any chances or offer much personality.

Watching Disney's live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp bears the familiar feeling of settling -- sinking into a spot that is uncomfortably comfortable with the full, conscious knowledge that you could be spending your time better.
November 12, 2019
The best thing the new 'Lady and the Tramp' has going for it is being on Disney+ where there's a lower bar to giving it a shot.
November 12, 2019
It might feel weird to say for a Disney+ film, but this version of Lady and the Tramp actually lacks the thematic complexity of its '50s inspiration.

Our carbon-based hero couple transform into computer-generated chimeras every time they open their mouths...Lady and the Tramp might take a different route than The Lion King, but it winds up in the same depths of the uncanny valley.

Suffice it to say that even on a smaller screen, attributing anthropomorphic qualities to photoreal fauna remains a Disney stumbling block.
November 8, 2019
Lady and the Tramp is quite the mild ride. Its marriage of computer animation with real dogs may be impressive, but it's aimed at kids, and they won't care.
November 7, 2019
Watching the remake over-explain every joke and dramatic beat only increases one's appreciation for how the original trusted its young audience to understand subtext, satire, and emotional nuance.
November 5, 2019
Lady and the Tramp isn't the worst way to spend your time, but it's a shame that it didn't at least try to be something different.
November 4, 2019
Harmless, and pointless.
November 4, 2019
This Lady and the Tramp could've been worse, true; it should've been better.
November 4, 2019
The animated version of Lady and the Tramp may be a classic but all of the magic is missing in live-action.

Probably the dullest to date of the live-action (or quasi-live) remakes of beloved Disney animated films... further explores the limitations of having real (or digitally realistic) critters stand in for the talking animals of yesteryear.
