I love the way this film uses the mystery of a dead woman as something of a red herring, choosing instead to focus on marriage. The film implicitly suggests the presence of children corresponds with healthier unions. Where there is health, there is life. While the regular intersections become a bit much, the filmmakers wisely avoid over-writing the dialogue, resorting to silence and occasionally deft editing to draw out connections and comparisons/contrasts.

While it doesn't say anything new, this is a marvellously well made, well scripted and well acted film. Almost perfect in every way.

Finally saw it on cable. (Trying to see Australian movies in the states is almost impossible). Lantana is a well crafted, beautifully written and acted motion picture filled with character studies that leave you thinking long after the film ends.

First rate all the way. One of the best movies of the last decade that you never heard of.

I love movies like this where different characters stories seamlessly intersect. This movie pulls that plot device off very well and provides the user with interesting storylines in the process.

Some poignant points raised here. Almost a good screenplay and not too badly acted.

Lantana , a noxious weed that has devastated Australias natural areas. Where's the similarity between this movie? If anything the movie shows the lack of communication between people these days, yet fails to seem believable when 6 characters living in a city as large as Sydney are all interlocked so closely. Great performances once again by all actors, and is really the only thing that holds the movie together with the very realistic dialogue. Maybe you need to be at that middle age to really understand this movie, with a story line that probaly would have suited the stage instead.

What exactly does the title mean? What is Lantana?

Anyways this movie is actually kind of complex and works on several different levels. First the movie is about marriage and three couples struggling to keep their marriage together. It's also about a missing person. The pacing of the movie is pretty slow and if you're not careful could lull you to sleep. Other than that the movie is actually half way decent.

One of my favourite Australian movies with the cream of the crop of Australian actors. Keeps you on the edge till the end.

Something is wrong with the men in this film, like they can't communicate normally. All the characters intertwined with each other with consequences, whether it's good or bad, they all learned a valuable lesson. I like it.

One of the best examples of the "multiple thread" subgenre of drama. Characters are brilliantly drawn, script is fantastic and performances are all extremely strong. Not only is the story well written and told, it is complex without ever becoming confusing. A poignant and very human film.

Great characters, relationships between the characters, and great performances illuminate this film to another level. One you learn to accept all the coincidences going on, you'll find yourself enthralled by this web that writer Andrew Bovell has spun.

This solid, well acted story which weaves the woes of adult relationships should have had Hollywood taking particular notice of this impressive and overlooked Australian effort starring Anthony LaPaglia & Barbara Hershey. This is a delicate and complicated story of men and women getting tangled in adultery that somehow is subtly meshed within a baffling murder mystery. This does get complex but still remains surprisingly credible and keeps viewer glued with interest and fascination. Geoffrey Rush lends a subdued yet solid support but it's Kerry Armstrong's performance that like this story will tug at your heart strings as well as challenge your thinking.

This is a passable drama that follows a series of intriguing inter-connected stories of middle-aged couples and flirts with themes of extra-marital affairs, masculinity, familial loss and murder. It produces some quality efforts from it's largely Australian cast, and of course Barbara Hershey. However unique and extraordinary it may seem in it's own country, I found that it never rose above mundanity. That was unfortunate because although it's concept was spot on, it never kicked up enough of a fuss and never fully challanged me head-on and I think that it's subject matter was crying out for it. II don't know, maybe it has something to do with Australian sentimentalities and the country's ethos of playing everything so bloody safe!

4 stories in a movie..
But it all connects one another..
Strange but sometimes you will know that in life, everything is possible..

Slowly paced "thriller" that really has no intrigue or twist. Easy to figure out. More of a character study than a thriller, and I'm not a huge fan of character studies. Acting is decent, but nothing spectacular. Not sure why the critics are lauding LaPaglia so much for this film - he seemed to sleepwalk through it if you ask me. Pretty boring, so I'd say skip it.

Australian drama at its finest. So many twists and turns which keep you guessing till the end!

This was an absolutely fabulous movie about relationships, trust, and friendships. Very worth the watch. One of the best I've seen recently.

A laid back and measured delivery that emphasizes characterization and slow plot development rather than action or glossy production. Has a nice 'reality' feel to the locations and makes the most of the connections in the story. A well constructed and played film.

Good Australian drama rooted in the psychology of its characters and the theme of infidelity rather than its murder-mystery plot. Whilst slow-paced, this movie is particularly realistic and suitably well acted by its cast.
