Likable leads, terrific behind-the-scenes talent, and an intriguing musical hook aren't enough to save Last Christmas from its poorly conceived story. Read critic reviews

Apr 08, 2020Just wasn't my thing, or should I say it didn't tread over the well worn path. It was predictable and rather empty venture. I tend to enjoy the British comedies, but this wasn't a strong entry. The film was full of cliché story beats and one dimensional characters. The filmmaker has done better films, but I felt his presence wasn't required here. The film hits the third act and this is just running out of steam. I thought this might be a predictably strong outing for all involved, but sadly that wasn't the case. There's a strong cast here, but they have little to work with and this becomes a film that is serviceable instead of a must-see. 05/04/2020Brendan O Super Reviewer

Apr 07, 2020A likable movie that gets too cute and I was let down by the ending. Clarke and Fielding are a great pair and the acting is strong enough. Feig drops slap stick for rom/com and he almost pulls it off. 04/05/2020Christopher O Super Reviewer

Feb 08, 2020I don't really have an issue with the schmaltzy Hallmark movie of the week aesthetic but this whole thing is centered around a twist so baffling and awful that it never recovers once it is revealed.Alec B Super Reviewer

Dec 01, 2019Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding are great together (Clarke is a very talented comedic actress and Golding is as charming as ever) and the premise at the core of their characters' story is genuinely interesting. But the film that surrounds them does them a great disservice — it's a messy, tonally uneven patchwork of corniness and poor writing that has no direction. The film never seems to land on what it wants to be, throwing ideas and random, badly connected storylines onto the canvas. If it had merely focused on Clarke and Golding, it just might have executed the main premise that much better. It's too bad - with the right editing and writing, this could have worked.Matthew S Super Reviewer
