I thought the dialogue between the parties was inadequate, the script preposterous, and the attempt to visually capture the uniqueness of New York City a failure.
Wang tracks his guys like the documentarian he is, and if the movie feels a bit canned thanks to Adam Forgash's unoriginal script, classic NYC spots and a big heart make it feel like home.
The best thing about The Last New Yorker is its evocation of the relentless speed with which the city tears down and rebuilds itself.
Adam Forgash's script is a generic collection of schmaltz and implausibility...
There were reasons to hope that The Last New Yorker would be better than this.
Inspired by Wang's photo book about older Gothamites whose occupations were threatened by modernity, screenwriter Adam Forgash has fittingly written a scenario as hoary as his characters
Wang's geriatric bromance isn't so much a love letter to New York as it is Grumpy Old Mensches.
Guided by photographer-turned-director Harvey Wang's keen eye for Manhattan's fast-disappearing landscape of dive bars, diners, and bodegas "The Last New Yorker" is delightful chamber piece of romantic comedy.
A sweet, charming and warm romantic drama that suffers from being lazy, inorganic and seriously lacking in character development. The only scene-stealing, lively character is actually the city of New York itself.
A measured, minimalist masterpiece which is mostly a sweet homage to such rapidly disappearing Manhattan trademarks of yore as the neighborhood bar and the corner diner.
