Gayla S @Gaylams 23 hrs ago The Rhapsody is spellbinding, beautiful, heartbreaking, and hopeful! The life of concert pianist and composer John Bayless is fascinating, beginning with his musical talents and genius. He added a captivating personality to his journey in broadening his exploration of musical styles to create a unique signature. After a devastating stroke took away his ability to use the right side of his body he made a heroic struggle to reinvent himself in order to be able to use his fabulous talents and succeeded beyond belief. Words cannot do justice to John’s accomplishments through his genius and resilience . I strongly urge all music lovers to watch and listen to his Left Alone Rhapsody ❣️❤️ Gayla Sims, Houston, TX Amateur musician and longtime admirer from John’s Texas hometown See more Jeff G @RT81997857 2 days ago Pianist John Bayless is a compelling subject for Stewart Schulman’s doc. He has a vibrant personality, and an expansive vision of music. My photojournalist husband appreciated Schulman’s creative editing early on: intercutting Bayless playing solo, with limited accompaniment, and full orchestras. The approach captured our interest. Schulman follows Bayless’s long marriage to Bruce Franchini, who followed John around with a camera, supplying many clips. Then, in 2008 John had a stroke that incapacitated his right side. He had to decide to fold or go forward. He went forward. Playing now with his left hand only, Bayless rediscovered his passion, somewhat more subdued, but always imbued with curiosity and emotion. A closing thought from Schulman: "It’s a dark time on our planet, but John Bayless is a beacon." This enlightening documentary premiering on Amazon October 24. See more Michael M @MFMastro 3 days ago I had no idea of John Bayless' story before seeing this film. Wow! What an inspiration he is! In the beginning of the film, while being interviewed, Bayless says something like, "If just a man and a piano can hold an audience — there's incredible power in that!" Well, he and his piano (and this film about his greatest challenge!) held me throughout. I hope he's coming to play in NYC soon! Keep on that inspiring journey, sir! Definitely see this movie for the music, but most of all for John and his continuing triumph over incredible hardship.
