This slick chiller with impressive special effects is spiced up by a scarily good performance from Melanie Brown, once known as Scary Spice of the Spice Girls. She's part of a group of animal-rights activists trying to spring a colleague from jail, where he's being used as an experimental guinea pig. The cast also features Katharine Towne, the daughter of screenwriter Robert Towne. Ross McCall, Tom Hardy, Leo Bill, Toby Fisher.

It could have worked with a bit more of a creative story and some much snappier dialogue. As it stands, it's just another bottom-feeder in an ocean of genre mediocrity.

Audience Reviews for LD 50 Lethal Dose

This movie started out pretty decent, then just went to shit. Not worth watching even if you are a Tom Hardy fan. Might be a time filler, but even then it's doubtful that this movie can even get as high as 3/5 stars.

this was suspenseful never heard of it before I think I saw it on Netflix when you add a movie & suggestions for that genre come up. Not something new but I had a laugh as soon as I heard one of their voices.. SPICE GIRL Mel B is in it! but I rented it because Tom Hardy is in it. C+

I checked this out only because Tom Hardy is in it as he is my new favorite actor. It's a Science Fiction film where an activist group which calls themselves L.D. 50 go out to different labs and free animals that are being used for scientific experiments (similar to the whole product testing of chemicals on harmless animals). One of their comrades is left behind after he trips and alarm and is caught in a trap. The rest of the group make a plan to rescue him only to uncover that he is being a guinea pig to a new experiment on human beings. I really didn't expect anything going into this since there were a lot of bad reviews. I was right. The film goes nowhere fast and most of the time the group is bickering with each other and there's a bunch of screaming and silliness. The acting was very dull, especially from Melanie Brown. Does that name sound familiar to any of you? If it doesn't I'll give you a hint. She was a Spice Girl. FAIL!!! Hardy's performance was the only one I like because he actually made an effort. The set designs looked like something from a basement in a Telecommunications lab that I've been to. This is a film I advise everyone to stay away from. You'd be better off doing something else for 97 min than waste your time on this film. It's pure salty garbage!
