From the storyline to the score to the climactic reaction shots to the purposely head-scratching ending, Lies We Tell is crammed, histrionic, and way too damn much.
[A] glum, poorly organized crime drama.
Something's got to give, and unfortunately it's narrative coherence and character consistency, rather than any of the superfluous subplots, that get the chop.
Truth be told, "Lies We Tell" is a pretentious and muddled dud of a melodrama.
Weak script and amateurish direction sink this dead-on-arrival debut.
A fairly standard British thriller, this is a slickly made but murky, mopey movie with an unfocussed plot that gets lost in the manipulative editing
A drama-cum-thriller about a woman trying to save her sister from a nightmare marriage, it overstuffs its plot and overdoes its melodrama.
There's lots of atmosphere and dramatic potential here, but tangled story-telling and jump-cut editing combine to ensure it's never quite realised.
This sleazy, sluggish British thriller is clumsily handled and wastes a number of talented actors.
The film is hindered by clunky dialogue and strained performances from minor characters ...
Nothing to reflect on, nothing to question and nothing to care about.
Despite some very talented actors doing their level best and lending what substance they can, this is a pretty leaden and unconvincing film, further hampered by a cheesy and intrusive musical score.
