At its core, this hysterically sweet film has a big, loving, kind heart.

This is a movie you just sit and watch and enjoy. It's not even one you need to see in the theaters, you can wait and it'll still be enjoyable when it's in constant rotation on TNT or FX every weekend.

Life of the Party comes with a good concept, but a weak script and cheap gags drag it down. Might have been better after a few more drafts.

McCarthy's third creative collaboration with her husband, director Ben Falcone, is funnier and fresher than their previous work together (Tammy, The Boss) thanks to its supporting cast and surprising depth.

Hate to be the party pooper, but this one fell flat.

Much of Life of the Party is trite, derivative and/or simply stupid. Yet it's nice to see McCarthy and Falcone giving this that old college try -- and almost pulling it off with honors.

Structurally and dramatically the film is like its protagonist - it does not hold up well under scrutiny but gets by on its own, loopy inoffensiveness.

I laughed enough to enjoy myself and the supporting cast is strong .

[McCarthy's] mishaps and triumphs are breezy enough; yet, for the most part, the laughs don't come.

Somewhere inside the rushed, commercial shell of Life of the Party lies an unformed but much better film merely hinted at in this release.

It's a fine example of a Melissa McCarthy vehicle, a film constructed primarily to allow her to unleash her own particular brand of mania and physicality on the viewing public. If you dig that, as I do, then you're going to have a great time.

Fresh comedy starring one of the best female comedians of our generation. What else do we need? [Full review in Spanish].

It takes until the film's second half for this party to find any life, but the latest Mellissa McCarthy/Ben Falcone collaboration still feels devoid of any larger sense of purpose.

The plot of Life of the Party often feels like filler that only exists to link the comedic scenes together and consequently everything else about it suffers.
October 18, 2018
The script, however ... does them few favors; Life of the Party never finds conflict or drive.

Let's be honest, no one in fifty years is going to call Life of the Party a career highpoint. It'll be any wonder people will remember it at all.

This feels more like a serious of outlandish vignettes from a TV sitcom as opposed to a fully-fledged theatrical feature.
