At its core, this hysterically sweet film has a big, loving, kind heart.

This is a movie you just sit and watch and enjoy. It's not even one you need to see in the theaters, you can wait and it'll still be enjoyable when it's in constant rotation on TNT or FX every weekend.

McCarthy's third creative collaboration with her husband, director Ben Falcone, is funnier and fresher than their previous work together (Tammy, The Boss) thanks to its supporting cast and surprising depth.

There are at least two moments funny enough to bring down the house, and despite Life of the Party's flaws, I appreciated the attempt by McCarthy and husband Falcone to create a college movie that plays nice for a change.

I laughed enough to enjoy myself and the supporting cast is strong .

Somewhere inside the rushed, commercial shell of Life of the Party lies an unformed but much better film merely hinted at in this release.

It's a fine example of a Melissa McCarthy vehicle, a film constructed primarily to allow her to unleash her own particular brand of mania and physicality on the viewing public. If you dig that, as I do, then you're going to have a great time.

Fresh comedy starring one of the best female comedians of our generation. What else do we need? [Full review in Spanish].

The day will come when McCarthy makes another drop-dead hit like The Heat or Bridesmaids where she can be funny and have a decent script to back her up. And when that day arrives, I'll be waiting in the wings

"Life of the Party" isn't groundbreaking. But it isn't trying to be. It is a sweet, charming, and funny story about carrying on when things don't work out the way they're supposed to.

But sometimes just making you laugh is enough, and making you laugh while validating body and sex-positivity for all is no small thing.

Funny on a consistent-enough basis to provide some fun.

No matter how outrageous the circumstances get, McCarthy always works best when her natural love and goodwill leads the way. She's a comedic mama bear at heart.

Life of the Party, at its core, is really a loving depiction of a mid-life crisis, enduring friendships and the perseverance of moms.

More fun than funny, Life of the Party may be one of the weaker comedies to come from Melissa McCarthy in a leading role, but it's entertaining, pleasant and harmless enough if you've been taken by McCarthy's previous work with Ben Falcone.

The movie may be one of the nicest, most kind-hearted things I've seen in awhile.

A film that's hard to hate, and equally hard to love...McCarthy is charming, and the film quite refuses to challenge her.

McCarthy doesn't try to conceal her purpose: she has won her power the hard way and she wants to use it for the greater good. That's part of what makes her the cultural icon she has become, the champion of downtrodden woman of all shapes and sizes.

Perhaps Life of the Party shouldn't work but, overall, it does thanks to McCarthy's superb comic instincts, a mainly decent script and a strong supporting cast.

...an uneven mess, but for a Melissa McCarthy vehicle it's a vast improvement over most of her previous movies.
