This ten-hours epic miniseries about the great Giuseppe Verdi is a must-see for opera fans, despite the horrendous video transfer. It covers all nooks and crannies of his 87 years of life, features a playful narration (by Burt Lancaster) that constantly reminds us of what's fact and what's speculation. Musically it's perfect, seemingly all filmed in location, and it doesn't hurt that the awesome English leading actor Ronald Pickup seems to be a convincing musician himself and looks just like Verdi.

I have this both on Cassette and on DVD and have watched it many times. When I visited Verdi's homes in Bussetto Italy I met others who had seen it and liked it .It is of highest possible quality and verdi was a likeable guy, unlike Wagner in 'Life of Wagner ".
