Lilo & Stitch Reviews

November 16, 2009
Smart, poignant, and utterly beguiling.
September 2, 2008
It's a bright, engaging bauble with half a dozen Elvis Presley songs for Mom and Dad, and just enough sass -- Stitch sticks his tongue into his nose and eats his snot -- to keep the tweeners giggling.
June 24, 2006
Regrettably, towards the end the film veers off into a mess of weird aliens and Cartoon Network silliness.
December 2, 2002
Disney's most winning animated couple since Bambi and Thumper.
August 9, 2002
An entertaining and (three cheers) modest bauble that eschews most of the blockbuster trappings that have been strangling animated features in the past few years.

A refreshingly low-tech cartoon.

[A] crushing disappointment.

Mostly the film is just hectic and homiletic: two parts exhausting Men in Black mayhem to one part family values.

By turns endearing and hilarious, Lilo & Stitch is proof the folks at Disney should break their own rules more often.

While dutifully pulling on heartstrings, directors Dean Deblois and Chris Sanders valiantly keep punching up the mix.

A new variation on the Disney animated flick, one that reflects less a corporate formula than a particular animator's iconoclastic taste.

It's a film that's destined to win a wide summer audience through word-of-mouth reviews and, not far down the line, to find a place among the studio's animated classics.

This is a happy throwback to the time when cartoons were cinema's most idiosyncratic form instead of one of its most predictable.

Despite its charms, and the refreshingly non-traditional characters, Lilo & Stitch seems diluted and too derivative to be as effective as one wants it to be.

It's sweet. It's funny. It wears its heart on the sleeve of its gaudy Hawaiian shirt. And, thanks to the presence of 'the King,' it also rocks.
