Movie Info

Filmmaker Jukka Kärkkäinen presents an unusual look into the lives of ordinary people in this documentary. Kansakunnan Olohuone (aka The Living Room Of The Nation) features interviews with a handful of seemingly typical Finnish citizens as they relax in their living rooms and talk about their lives, often with surprising openness. A street musician prepares for the day, demonstrating his standard pre-performance rituals. An elderly former priest talks about the many people he helped counsel as well as his own loneliness. A man shares some drinks with his best friend while discussing his child that's soon to be born and the many mistakes he's made. And a man released from the drunk tank comes home to a tense household and more boozing. The Living Room Of The Nation was named Best Documentary at the 2009 Jussi Awards, Finland's answer to the Oscars.
