It looks they have exaggerated a little the real story; however, the truth itself is so incredible, that any change looks minor.

Just watched it for the second time. It's a well made conventional love story, but, set in Spain's Siglo de Oro, the story of part of the life of one of literature's greats. Pretty accurate historically.

Lope is a movie with a great cast and ambience placed in the golden age of the Spanish literature.

However, it commits two important mistakes that share with another great production like "Alatriste".

First, the story modifies substantiatly the real biography of the main character, trying to make the plot easier while mixing several episodes of his life. It doesn't work.

Second, the main character is performed by an Argentinian actor that doesn't speak a standard Spanish from Spain, in contrast with the rest of the cast. That makes the most important part of the film not credible.

Maybe this second mistake is not so important for the international audience but, for the Spanish one, which I assume is the main target, makes the film a disaster.

LOPE, 2010, is directed by Andrucha Waddington, co-production Brazil / Spain. It has Sonia Braga and Selton Mello playing perfect interpretations. Pilar Lopez de Ayala reminded me Marieta Severo. In fact the entire cast is flawless. The love scenes in the movie drops the pace and gets boring. The best parts are those that tell how it was done theater in the sixteenth century. I liked the movie because of the interpretations.

Una apuesta interesante. Una producción digna. Un resultado regulero. (6+)

The production design is solid and Alberto Ammann is a satisfaying lead, but sometimes Lope lacks rhythm.
