Amazing to see Colin Firth in one of his first major roles and pretty much carrying the film on his shoulders. His acting is already very solid. He's nearly in every scene in addition to his voice as a narrator. It's a very well made miniseries, featuring a very talented ensemble cast, included Laurence Olivier as a buddy-duddy artist.

Colin Firth broods as drama unfolds behind the scenes of a British theater troop in the early 1900s. Not too bad, a little boring at times. One of Sir Laurence Olivier's last performances.

In 1913 England, a young British lad named Richard moves from the countryside of his youth to experience the glitz, glamour, and excitement of Britain's theatre life as the theatre group performs in major cities in Britain. Colin Firth stars as Richard, the young, naive lad who joins his uncle's troupe and finds intrigue, excitement, and love. Richard grows up along the way. Sir Laurence Olivier co stars. This is a fanciful movie that takes you back to an age of innocence before the Great War. This is one of Mr. Firth's first roles and Colin Firth is superb as usual. You can always bet on a CF film. He brings his unique charm and his speciality is period pieces like Pride and Prejudice. Long but worth the time. A fun trip back to a less cynical era.
