Movie Info

A touching tale of love between misfits, this is the story of a lonely spinster with a terminal illness and a college drop-out with family problems who meet and fall in love. This film is sensitively handled with a subtlety not usually found in this type of movie.

Cheerfully dreary.

Ozus' World Movie Reviews

One of those immensely modest little 1970s dramedy gems that nobody talks about... but every time anyone sees one of them, their response is always the same: "that was a great little movie".

Maggie Smith is wonderful, Timothy Bottoms less so. A very seventies movie.

★★1/2 (out of four) A small, unpretentious little film from director Alan J. Pacula, who also made films like "The Sterile Cuckoo" and "Sophie's Choice". It is quiet, but a little too quiet which borders it on the uninvolving. Timothy Bottoms plays a college age student who takes a bicycle tour through Spain. He meets a Britsih woman, played by Maggie Smith, who is on anothert tour. She is older than him, but they hit it off and they leave their respected vacations to travel together. There is more going on than that, but I don't want to spoil anything. No surprise here is that the performances make the film, the story is not overly captivating.
