Oh man is this movie great. The beautiful, brilliant madcappery that all but abandoned American comedy with the Marx brothers seems to have migrated to Hong Kong, where, based on the very few movies I've seen, people apparently have the coolest sense of humor ever. Stephen Chow directs and stars in one of the funniest movies I've seen--by turns smart, surreal, silly and slapstick (with particular emphasis on the last two), "Love on Delivery" (aka, "King of Destruction") is a glorious send-up of the classic story of the fight between the underdog and the champion (a la "Rocky," and the resolution is a very funny and fairly subtle parody of that film). But Chow isn't concerned with plot, and the idea here is to throw every idea in and see what works--and, by the grace of the comedic gods, most everything does (and even the stuff that isn't funny is funny because it isn't funny--it's that kind of a movie).
It's basic low-budget Stephen Chow in all his hilarious glory. It's not his best, but it's still very funny.
Really strange, but very fun Chow flick. The ending is craaaazy.
