Love's Enduring Promise is an adaptation of a series of novels written by Janette Oke. The film stars Katherine Heigl and Dale Midkiff as a pioneer couple who began their relationship out of necessity but see it develop into true love. They must struggle against the elements to keep their farm solvent. His daughter, Missie (January Jones), is a 19-year-old schoolteacher who has two different young men -- Grant Thomas (Mackenzie Astin), a hardworking young man who works for the railroad, and Nate (Logan Bartholomew), a mysterious man who helps out at the family farm -- vying for her affections. A secret from Missie's father's past comes back to haunt the family. The film was directed by Michael Landon Jr., the son of someone with a history of directing family-friendly television about pioneers.

...there's just something oddly compelling about the film's complete lack of cynicism...

Audience Reviews for Love's Enduring Promise

Besides January Jone's annoying and terrible acting, this movie is one of my favorites. Logan Bartholomew, Katherine Heigl, and Dale Midkiff are amazing in this movie.

Nothing particularly special, but for a light-hearted period love story, it's decent enough. Overly simplistic and a bit rough-shod with it's climax, it still entertains and I'm sure would be perfect for a family movie.

The third installment of 5 movies for tv, this HallMark Entertainment presentation is very typically well done and while not anywhere near an action thriller, it slowly evolves as a piece of work. While the acting is anything but smooth, the primary actors come together in the wilds of somewhere, supposedly in the midwest usa. Full of substance and no bad language, this film will not impress action adventure types. It doesn't go there, but rather is a very real depiction of hard life in the prarie states. A film by Michael Landon's (Bonanza's Little Joe) son, this is a drama worth watching, much in the same genre as Little House on the Prarie. Slow and methodical for some, it is still worth watching.
