Another fine turn for a terrific actress, even if the film itself has a tendency to bump its tail on terra firma.

[Natalie] Portman gives her all in her performance, which is the only saving grace of the film, and in the end this film is a complete misfire. To paraphrase the titular song, picture yourself seeing any other movie than this.

It's a deep-thinking character study that's provocatively if imperfectly presented - at least until the story devolves right along with its subject's state of mind.
October 7, 2019
Natalie Portman gives it her all in uneven and pretty wacko space melodrama, but other than that there is not much to ponder in this "inspired by a true story" movie.

Since it's so closely associated with Lisa Nowak's story, many find fault because it doesn't exactly embrace her narrative. But the film can and should stand on its own.
October 4, 2019
A sensitive, artful and rather odd retelling of a well-known news story.

I appreciated what [Noah Hawley] was trying to do with changing the aspect ratio of the film. And for me, it was a kind of a fun game.

Sometimes we look on confused and shaking our head, but more often we stare with glassy-eyed wonder at a world-and a movie-that is teeming with all sorts of messy life.
October 3, 2019
Lucy presents Portman with another juicy assignment.

It's hard not to like Lucy in the Sky, not because it's especially likable or even skillful, but because Portman is so committed that she sometimes seems capable of making the movie worthwhile by sheer force of will.

[Director Noah Hawley's] experiment may not work, but maybe a failed experiment is more exciting than seeing the same old stories in new packaging.
October 3, 2019
A stylish and interesting journey into the dark side of human nature, anchored by a magnetic performance from Natalie Portman. The script lacks nuance, but it's definitely a worth-it drama. [Full review in Spanish]

But even in her lowest moments, in the craziest scenarios, Hawley and Portman never deny Lucy's power, making room for a small sense of anarchic triumph to break through, with a wink and a wisecrack and a will of iron.
October 2, 2019
A true-crime story with Hawley's artistic filmmaking touch and some gorgeous imagery... Lucy in the Sky really isn't so bad.
October 2, 2019
Natalie Portman is terrific, per usual, and the film feels less sensationalistic and more humane than the media coverage of the story which inspired it.
October 2, 2019
Another committed performance from Natalie Portman as Lucy, who digs her heels into overblown empathetic overdrive as a woman awakened to the small, unimpressive reality of her life on Earth.

You'll be pleased to know Lucy in the Sky is very Noah Hawley. You'll also understand when I say it's more Legion Noah Hawley than Fargo Noah Hawley.
September 18, 2019
It's rare to see such immense impulse given the time and space of Lucy in the Sky - an illogical, unsettled and entertaining picture.
September 16, 2019
Natalie Portman delivers one of the most moving performances of her career...
September 13, 2019
Even when we don't know what the hell Lucy is doing, Portman makes her certainty a blast.
