A Classic and equally spine chilling story, beautiful songs, awesome cinematography, fantastic acting and to top it all this being a Gulzar film, Maachis is certainly one of the best political thrillers of its time.Maachis, unfortunately is now a forgotten story which equally deserved its own share of accolades.

Based on 1984 Sikh riots , Directed by gulzar movie highly engrossed with suspense and thrill but lacks in depth of plot and climax.Well Played by Chandchur and Om Puri and direction & music well ahead of that time, gulzar has delivered you a good package that is still fresh to see now.

"Thin lines".... Gulzaar Saab is a man of micro and he digs and extracts from within, presents it boldly, mostly the real-life stories, reeled so amazingly. And what lyrics and what emoting experience! And, this heavenly Lata... mostly she emotes else she gives you shivers and make you cry. Maachis!

What would you do if the police comes to your house, takes away your friend, beats him to death for no reason, tortures him and then brings him back to his house and leaves him outside his own door. And your friend is no longer the happy, healthy guy he used to. His face is deformed..he is in pain all the time. And all this he has to suffer for no reason but because he is a Sikh? And the next thing you find out is that the prime minister of your own country is ordering to attack the Golden Temple, the holy place for Sikhs? The movie does a really good job of showing how numerous innocent youth turned into what the government labeled as terrorists. People have to have some guts to watch this movie cuz there is a lot of truth in it and it is the truth that always hurts.

A difficult movie to review, given that the plot of this movie is so controversial.Portraying terrorists in a favorable light, this movie is not just about terrorism, but how one act of terrorism leads to the birth of yet another terrorist somewhere else!An astounding movie, with a ravishing soundtrack, this movie is a classic!

That's the way to make movies... the Gulzar way. Since this movie, i have never seen Chandrachur singh acting so well, Vishal Bhardwaj giving such soothing music or Jimmy Shergill putting so decent a show. Om Puri steals the show in his negative role. brilliant story!
