Movie Info

Gregory Peck plays a sheriff in this western, though he's seeking gold instead of protecting a one-horse town. After making his way past several desperadoes (played by Burgess Meredith, Lee J. Cobb, Eli Wallach and Edward Robinson), he vies for the treasure with his nemesis (Omar Sharif). Also lending their talents are Julie Newmar, best-known as Catwoman on the Batman TV series, and Quincy Jones, who provides the score.

Audience Reviews for MacKenna's Gold

Decent western that suffers from the filmmakers trying to make it an "Epic." Probably would have been a flat out bad film if not for a huge budget. The cast does a nice job although Omaar Sharif tries to hard to play Eli Wallach's character from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." Nice small roles for Telly Savales, the real Eli Wallach, and the great Gregory Peck. While the locations are breath-taking, some of the shots, most notably during the quake at the end, look incredibly fake. Entertaining but way to long. The song "Old Turkey Buzzard" is awesome!

I sat through this whole thing, and then 30 minutes from the end, our satellite goes out. Add a couple choice expletives to frustration and you get the picture.

despite the fortified cast that includes gregory peck, omar sharif, telly savalas and eli wallach, it's mediocre in all aspects
