Maleficient: Mistress of Evil could certainly be worse, but that does not make it a good movie either.

These elements give the movie a nice shine, but when you bust out the polish to make your shoe look pretty, it doesn't make a difference if the sole is missing.

Mistress of Evil is simultaneously overdone and undercooked, with a lot of the customary mistakes of giant studio entertainment.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is likely to have its fans given their admiration for the original but when compared to the aforementioned films, it's sorely lacking.
November 9, 2019
The plot seems a touch thin, the battle scenes interminable, and resolution, when it comes, unearned.
November 5, 2019
Declares that Maleficent is hostile and threatening and scary, while also telling a story in which she is specifically not those things. It's very confounding and sloppy.

With the overwhelming razzle-dazzle of computer-generated vistas, there's definitely something missing. Fairytales are meant to be whispered, invoking wonder and mystery, even at their darkest. This is shouty and loud.
November 4, 2019

Elle Fanning's innocent flowerchild is cast from a depressingly familiar mould in this muddled, wildly uneven sequel to Disney's revisionist 2014 spin on the Sleeping Beauty legend.
October 29, 2019
Jolie is great, Pfeiffer is great, but despite its lead character's impressive wingspan, this second Maleficent fails to cast much of a shadow.
October 28, 2019
This sequel is unbearably less fun and more treacly. [Full Review in Spanish]
