Movie Info

This Argentine film freshens up an old cinematic device: juxtaposing science fiction and religion. A Buenos Aires mental hospital is thrown into an uproar when a mysterious male patient appears out of nowhere. As the psychiatrists grill the stranger, he sticks to a story that suggests that his origins are far from earthly. In fact, if his seemingly supernatural powers are any proof, he may well be a space alien. Unable to comprehend the incomprehensible, the authorities decide to lock the visitor away from public view, maybe even put an end to his life--and the analogies to Christ and Christianity are lost on no one.

It shows huge promise -- its mystery, its patient pace and its eerie resonance sometimes transcend its didactics.

There's a pleasing mood to "Man Facing Southeast" that makes you want to like it. But the story is so sluggish and takes such illogical twists that you give up.

Audience Reviews for Hombre Mirando al Sudeste

k-pax ripped off this film...but this one had more ass, balls, and terrible music. Would have been very good without these 3 downfalls.

Hollywood went in to do a remake: "K-pax" but it did not work out! Subiela is a rare cinama genius with such titles as "The dark side of the heart". Eliseo Subiela indulges in a neo-materialistic discourse witha new dialectic approach that would leave even Hegel flabbergasted. Highly political, it's a very elegant critic to the post-industrialization, consumer society. Set in Argentina, the editing and camera work are exquisite. Go ahead and get it, this you will regret not :)

Go rent this film right now! A man shows up at an insane asylum and claims he is from another planet. He is a genius and begins to show the hospital staff the blind spots with respect to their humanity. The orchestra scene is perhaps my favorite of any film!
