01/22/2007 Innerspace (1987) Because I think John Landis is a genius, even tough he never had a real hit (aside from Gremlins). Dennis Quaid is a scientist, minituarized and trapped inside the body of market-clerk Martin Short. There's also Meg Ryan, in one of her most lovely performances, and really great special effects. It lacks some focus, tough, and the comedy doesn't let the action take on. Still, it's amazingly entertaining and wild. Grade: 7 out of 10. Space Camp (1986) There's Kelly Preston, Lea Thompson, and even a young Joaquin Phoenix, but still, there's not much to see in this lame comedy about a group of brats in a space camp that, somehow, launch a shuttle into space. They have to deal with the lack of oxygen (tough everyone manages to survive at least 25 minutes without it) and learn how to work as a team. The cast is bright, if on co-pilot. The script handles shalow teen subjects when it could explore the whole space camp subject. Sci-fi mode is turned off, and so is the viewer's patience. Preston and Thompson stand out, tough. Grade: 4 out of 10. A Máquina (The Machine) (2006) A brazilian film you might never watch, but it's definetly worth if you do. In a small village (which isn't even in the map), a girl dreams with "the world", and becoming an artist, while her boyfriend is attached to the place. Still, he promises he'll bring her The World, with unexpected results. A fantasy that's good for the whole family (as long as you have intelligent children that don't bother watching a movie with subtitles), with strong perfomances from a pretty cast, smart direction and a captivating script. Grade: 8 out of 10. See more Read all reviews
