Critic Reviews for Maria's Lovers

All Critics (3)

A sensitive and subtle film about love, lust and emotional scars, the title is perhaps misleading. The film explores the quandary that two lovers face when sexual inadequacy causes a void in their relationship

A solid-looking piece of erotic drama that focuses on what's going on below the surface (and below the belt).

Audience Reviews for Maria's Lovers

½

I was looking forward to Konchalovsky's movie and to make a long story short, was disappointed. While the individual scenes are well directed and cinematography is great, as a whole the story doesn't come together. Apparently, the 4 (!) screenwriters failed to come up with a cohesive script.

Simple and strong. Great performance by Nastassja Kinski (probably the only one who can play this role), John Savge, and Robert Mitchum. Konchalovsky's finest in his US-era.

Resembles something like a finely-made house whose interior furbishings somehow fail to turn the house into a home.
