The story of powerful and charismatic drug dealer Richard Carter (aka Maserati Rick) comes to the screen as his son and his two brothers reflect on his stratospheric rise to power in this raw and intimate documentary. A product of Detroit's notorious East Side, Maserati Rick used his powerful connections and remarkable gift of gab to help found "Best Friends," the gang that would go on to become Detroit's most notorious drug cartel. Before long he was a hometown legend, his murderous exploits a perfect fit for the city's violent history. But Maserati Rick aspired to more in life, and after capturing the attention of Tommy "The Hit Man" Hearns, he was hired in as a bodyguard for the well-known boxer. A stint as a manager in the boxing game quickly followed, with Maserati Rick calling the shots for his brother, Greg Carter, while organizing large fight purses and supervising a multi-million dollar drug network. According to some accounts, Maserati Rick earned in excess of $20 million while controlling cocaine and heroin sales to the entire East Side. Later, after his control began to slip, the most powerful drug dealer in Detroit met a grim end in an inner-city hospital despite the fact that hospital police were guarding him at the time. As a result, Detroit laws regarding hospital procedure were given a complete overhaul, and Maserati Rick became a pivotal part of the city's rich history.
