The Master was a failed TV show in the 80s, they released episodes under the name "Master Ninja". This is the first episodes being put together and my, they were awful.

Wow, I'm not a bit surprised that Flixster has so little information about this movie and that barely anyone has seen it. Master Ninja (and its sequel Master Ninja II) is a collection of episodes of a TV show turned into a made for TV movie, and boy is it terrible. Everything about it can be summed up by this page: it has these three actors in it, and they do stuff. That's about it. The plot is meaningless because it changes halfway through when it switches over to another episode, leaving the plot of the previous episode slightly unresolved. Oh well, it's not like the plot is that great anyway. I think it's a bit of a play on The Karate Kid, or just a take on Bruce Lee or karate shows like Kung Fu (or to give Lee Van Cleef something to do), but it didn't really pan out in the long run and just winds up being screwy. The crew at Mystery Science Theater 3000 did a terrific job of taking this crappy movie and making it entertaining, because it certainly wasn't entertaining before them. I'd say skip it, unless you can see the MST3K version, which is very funny.

Clips from a failed TV show edited together into a boring film with hardly any martial arts action. The characters aren't too bad and the cast is nice, but overall it's uninteresting and a watch best seen only with MST3K.

It's bad, but in a hilarious kind of way. It's amazing how well put-together some of the fight sequences are in spite of it all. This is great for a Saturday night get-together with some friends that know how to take it for what it's worth.

Bad Clouse/Kosugi piecing together of tv episodes, making for some great MST3K. Recently watched this again after the new box set came out, upon reading reviews on Varied Celluloid.
