A very enjoyable and funny comedy out of Israel about four overweight men trying to find self-esteem ... learning to be sumo wrestlers. This is going to be remade for American audiences, so keep an eye out for it so you can compare.

cytaty:

Beyond presenting some good comic moments, this movie brings into view the victims of the ubiquitous war on obesity. Society marginalizes fat people by casting them into a simplistic role, defining them by their weight alone. This process runs so deep that the victims themselves come to view themselves only by the reading of the scales at the Weight Watchers group meetings. Five friends find refuge in the Japanese culture where people of their physique, the Sumo wrestlers, are revered. By forming a local Sumo group they find a sense of purpose, destiny and manage to break free of the stereotype imposed on them by society.
I would have rated the movie higher if not for the not-so-impressive performance by some of the actors and the somewhat melodramatic plot. Notable is the performance of Togo Igawa, who presents a most convincing Hebrew.
