Movie Info

Maurice Hines: Bring Them Back is an intimate portrait of the charming song-and-dance man from his tap-dancing childhood to today. Ever battling the challenges of being a gay, black man in showbiz, Maurice shares his story with humor and grace. Filmmaker John Carluccio recorded Maurice for nearly three years, and was attracted to his loving yet difficult relationship with superstar brother Gregory Hines. We watch as the 75-year-old navigates aging without his sibling by his side. The documentary magically intercuts archival flashbacks with vérité, heart-tugging present-day moments and explosive tap performances. Maurice brings back the memories of Gregory, his family and the great tappers who came before him.
