A girl who likes boys falls for a boy who's really a girl in this comedy-drama from Germany. Melanie (Anjorka Strechel) is a twenty-two year old woman who is still uncertain about her sexuality. One night, Melanie almost gets in a car wreck with pretty teenage Jenny (Lucie Hollmann), and Melanie is immediately smitten with her. However, as Melanie finds out more about Jenny, she learns the younger girl prefers men, and is attracted to Nuno (Manuel Cortez), a ruggedly handsome man of Portuguese heritage. Melanie isn't about to give up on Jenny, and with a new set of clothes, a bit of padding up and strapping down in the right places and some carefully applied attitude, she reintroduces herself to Jenny as Miguel, a tough talking Latin man. Jenny doesn't see through the ruse and is quite taken with Miguel, but as Melanie tries to win her heart, she realizes that if the relationship does succeed she'll have to reveal her true nature to Jenny, and she's forced to come to terms with her sexual preferences. Mein freund aus Faro (aka To Faro) was an official selection at the 2008 Karlovy Vary Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
