really good movie, i really love "magnetic rose" and "cannon folder", but "stink bomb" has certainly good animations but is really under the two other parts

animation is beautiful and vivid. however the story is not so catchy. it is rather boring. the world is big and interesting, the screenplay could be so much better.

A very solid anthology, all of them intriguing for different reasons. But as a whole, they don't work that well together. I don't know if it would be any different if their order had been reshuffled.

An anime anthology film that sees both Satoshi Kon (Paprika, Perfect Blue) and Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) directing portions. The two directed by those mentioned are incredible. The awkward middle one..... not so much. Kon's especially is amazing.

Although the second and the third story can't measure with the first one, that is because what a story Magnetic Rose is! It is a visually astounding, original, very interesting, emotional and an all around very well-made segment that helps transcend the overall film to a status of very good. Memories is a great viewing experience and one of the better anime films from the nineties the does not come from Studio Ghibli.

I'm not a big fan of anime, but wanted to see this one as it gets a lot of good reviews. It's a collection of 3 unrelated stories. The first one is the most elaborate visually, but it was was a bit too drawn out and hearing European characters speak Japanese was weird. The second story is a darkly hilarious black comedy, it worked perfectly in the anime format. The third story was unexpectedly serious, and its message was all too familiar, to me anyway. It was interesting and original, but coming after the "comedic" segment, it was the least entertaining.

A strange compilation of three films with very different themes, tones, and styles - a depressed, psychedelic, and nostalgic "Magnetic Rose" - a chaotic, hilarious, cheerful and head-scratching "Stink Bomb" - and a surreal and deeply allegoric "Cannon Fodder". It is really hard for me to figure out the link between the three, and their link to the common title "Memories" - a line of memories from the operatic classic futuristic past in "Magnetic Rose" to the realistic yet unrealistic punk present in "Stink Bomb" and finally to the past (World War I)-reflecting steampunk/totalitarian/post-apocalyptic future in "Cannon Fodder" perhaps? A strange and very uneven film, luckily enough, still very enjoyable.

Three stories to bend your mind and entertain

A trilogy of wonderful and vastly different tales targeted to a mature anime audience who prefer their films to be a little more cerebral. A masterpiece.

A delightful mashup of several distinct spirits in a single collection. Magnetic Rose challenges conventions and offers a swelling physiological portrait, Stink Bomb hurls a haphazard everyman into the teeth of a military juggernaut determined to save humanity from... him, and Cannon Fodder sketches a beautifully desolate society in which live revolves around the rifling of its myriad cannons, all firing punctually into oblivion at an unseen foe. Each piece contributes a special magic in animation and subject matter, and the conventions of traditional animation are defied and expanded in each director's preferred direction, most notably Mr. Otomo's sweeping, twisting camera movements that unfold a massive cannon's lair to his viewers.

Pretty long and drawn out for shorts. Narrative was so haphazard that I got bored and couldn't even finish watching after the mid point of the second one.

The second story, about the guy with the gas coming out of him is hilarious. The other two stories are just strange and sad. Worth a viewing, though.

Weird flippin' anime. That last story is terrible, but the first two are pretty good Twilight Zone-ish shorts.

Impressive collection of short films, each powerful enough to each fill up a whole feature legnth film.

I loved the different styles all implemented in this movie, deep and very character diven. My favorite type of anime. I was't too impressed by the last tale in this series. Very boring compared to Chapter 1 and 2.

Worth watching for the "Stink Bomb" segment of the animated trilogy, but otherwise one for the hard core anime fan I think.

3 short films all very diferent in style and indeed story, the middle entry being the very best and could most definatly stand as a feature, and other two adding a lot, the three stories being so diferent dont knock into each other and that alsao works in its favour.

Magnetic Rose is outstanding.
The other two are more forgettable.
