A Mighty Wind looks like it wasn't a big challenge for Guest and his ensemble cast of mockumentary regulars. But if this is what [they] can accomplish on cruise control all the power to them.

Tuned just right for a droll satire of the folk music scene.

There is no shortage of performers with comic skills in A Mighty Wind. What's lacking instead is a visible premise for the satire and ridicule.

Rather bland through the first third, the second third picks up only a little bit, but that third third is sweet.

The most memorable moment is not a gag but a kiss, which -- surprisingly -- proves to be as sweet, moving and heartbreaking as any smooch seen onscreen in ages.

It's not that A Mighty Wind isn't funny. It is. But it's also amazingly insubstantial. Five minutes after it's over, it begins to evaporate. And it doesn't help that Wind breaks (oh, come on, you couldn't have resisted either) no new ground.

There is no more exact statement of Hippie Sell-Out than folk songs being used to sell constipation relief.

If you're going for a textbook "good" movie, this isn't it. But... I sure laughed a lot. And these days, that's good enough for me.

Guest and company can always entertain, but they're even better at doing much, much more.

The movie manages to be satiric and affectionate at the same time.

A picture with moments of singular lunacy but overall regrettably little bite.

Deftly mixes equal parts hilarity, poignancy, and lively hootenanny gusto.

The predictably skimpy plot is only the skeleton upon which the talented core group of players can lay their fleshy and muscular comedy.

A Mighty Wind succeeds at being witty and sincere like all of Guest's and Co's. previous efforts. This time, however, there is a layer of humanity on the power of innocence that makes this film unique.

It allows for a little tenderness blended in amidst the outrageous non-sequiturs and gut-busting one-liners. It is a film with heart as well as wit.
