Audience Reviews for Millionairess

"The Millionairess" starts with Epifania(Maggie Smith) asking advice from Julius Sagamore(Peter Barkworth), a lawyer, on making up a new will in advance of her killing herself over worries of her dwindling fortune down to a mere 30 million and her husband Alastair Fitzfassenden(James Villiers) cheating on her with Patricia Smith(Priscilla Morgan). Luckily, he talks her out of it before Alastair and Patricia happen to show up in his office on unrelated business. And then Epifania's friend and 'Sunday husband' Adrian Blenderbland(Charles Gray) puts in an appearance. Unluckily for Sagamore, he does not have enough time to go out and get popcorn. So, yes, Maggie Smith was young once(this is not the only example, though) and Tom Baker did play an Egyptian doctor(unnamed, although considering most of the other character names, he gets off lightly), both in "The Millionairess," a charming, smart and witty adaptation of a George Bernard Shaw play with the marvelous Smith having a very able supporting cast behind her. Of course, this was made in a different time, set in a time of rapidly changing social classes and ideas when people were becoming less reliant on their parents for choosing a mate, as money was becoming the rule of the land. Plus, we see again why fezzes are so cool.
