This is an unimaginatively faithful remake that leaves the original intact, complete with songs co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. But the replacement of animated beings with live actors manages to ramp up the folkloric kitsch considerably.

It works, but performances were average and nothing special, including Dwayne Johnson's performance, which did seem dated and old. Special effects are great though. Unless you are a diehard Moana fan, I'd wait until it hits Disney + to see it.
