Fails on so many levels. The romance aspect is a fail because there is little chemistry between the two actors, little time invested in making the viewer care, and the actress who plays Karen has a barely there emotional range. Aside from being kind of pretty, why would anyone fall in love with her? The surfing was okay, nothing extraordinary, since Even is a novice. The film falls into the pit of predictability and annoying...ness. Not enough is explained, and the ending reeked. There are a few decent characters, but that's not enough. Oh, and the way they went from scene to scene was not always smooth. Editing, people! It is more humorous than I expected, I will give it that.

An oddly compelling little drama about waves, both in the ocean and in relationships. THis cast is very easy to become absorbed in, and the parallels between surfing and relationships is subtle enough to work. Monster Thursday isn't groundbreaking or spectacular, and it's got some odd moments that feel like their supposed to be quirky, but it works dramatically. Mostly because these actors all feel just right, but also because the surfing scenes are shot with such care that you really feel like you're in Norway.
