AMC Network's celebrity interview series based on Professor Richard Brown's Movies 101, one of the most popular courses at NYU.
Audience Reviews for Movies 101
It's unfortunate that Professor Richard Brown doesn't have any teeth. He mewls and panders his way through most of the interviews, being exceedingly careful not to insult his subjects. This isn't in and of itself a bad thing, it's just that, sometimes, the actors want to bring up weightier topics - i.e. Cuba Gooding trying to explain why his career tanked - and the good professor steers them away from the subject matter as if he's too uncomfortable to deal with it. For Christ's sake, Brown, let the actors vent a little! It would be so much more interesting than the tripe you end up with. Anyway, out of the sixteen interviews available via net-streaming, only three were of any substantive value (Scorsese, Moore, and Goldberg.) A few more offered some interesting personal insights into the actors themselves (Sarandon, Voight, Clooney and Gooding.) The rest are, in my opinion, dead air. They didn't have to be that way, but Brown's ego-massaging is so overt, the actors can't sneak an interesting thought in edgewise.
