Mr. Bug gives an entertaining insect's-eye-view of Manhattan and its "human ones." Its color and atmosphere are first-rate; it is in good taste, and not overdone.
A bizarre mess that fails at every imaginable level.
Pleasant animated feature, but not up to the Fleischers' best.

The animation even gives early Disney a run for it's money and still stands up today. Hoppity is a bug who returns from some nondescript adventure/locale, perhaps he was fighting in the great bug wars, I dunno. Bring on a prequel. Anyway he returns and immediately attempts to get laid. Can't blame him since Honey Bumble is super fit. The rest of the plot plays out as the humans desecrate the land and our buggy friends attempt to find a new place to live. Some sweet songs, nice characters and one of the most racist things I've ever seen in a film involving rice and a Chinese impersonation, which is so innocent and out of the blue I was in stitches for hours. It's a very good, if under-appreciated film. Apparently some small conflict affected it's cinema release but hey, catch it now.
